How to Use Banner Self-Service

Your User ID is the M number. This number has several zeros (0) before the last digits. The number of zeros will vary. Follow the chart to determine the number of zeros before the last digits. Please note that the capital M must always be in front of the zeros.

Your PIN has been reset to your birth date in the following format: mmddyy. There are no spaces or dashes in between the numbers.

On the next screen, your OLD pin will be your birth date again in the same format as above.

You are to create a new pin using 6 characters; it can be numbers and/or letters. DO NOT USE YOUR BIRTH DATE!

How to Create a Help Desk Request

The Help Desk Icon is located on your desktop screen as the Meharry Seal.


  1. You will use your Meharry user ID and password for the sign in.

  2. Once in the program, you will click on “Create a new request” . 

  3. You will enter your extension in the phone number box.

  4. Describe what problem you are experiencing in the “Description” field.

  5. At the “Request Area” field, click on the small blue box with the white plus sign.  

  6. The “Request Area Selection” box will appear, chose the area of trouble your computer is experiencing.  

  7. When you have made your selection, please fill in your department, building, floor, room number, and phone extension.

  8. Once everything is filled, click on the “Submit Request” button.

How to Find the Computer Host Name

You should find this information located on the lower right corner of your desktop screen.

If that information is not there:

  1. Click on the Start Menu and find My Computer Icon. (If you have an older computer, the My Computer icon should be located on your desktop screen.)

  2. RIGHT click on My Computer,

  3. Scroll down to Properties and LEFT click. The Systems Properties box will show.

  4. Click on the tab that is named COMPUTER NAME or NETWORK IDENTIFICATION.

  5. The Computer Host Name will be listed as Full Computer Name.
